3 Minute Thread: Heather Gramston

"One of the perks of working in buying for 15+ years is that you see collections when they're launched. You then have six months to hone your wishlist."

The first time I spotted Heather was on the London Underground. She was wearing a black Issey Miyake top and looked impossibly chic against the sea of puffer-jacketed tourists. A week or so later, I was being introduced to her in my office at Browns Fashion - she was (unsurprisingly) the new Head of Womenswear, joining from stints at Selfridges, Matches and Net-a-Porter.

During my years at Browns, I was always inspired by her outfits, as well as her hair, which cycled through various iterations of red (as we discussed here). Here she is in one of them:

Who are you?
Heather Gramston, a brand consultant.

What are you wearing?
I’m wearing The Row silk tailored bermuda shorts, a Wardrobe NYC rib tank, a leather jacket by Trager Delaney and a Daniel Lee-era Bottega mule. My necklace is by my friend Lizzie Mandler and the pinky rings which I wear stacked are by Lizzie and Dina Kamal.

Why did you choose this outfit?
I almost exclusively wear black which streamlines getting dressed. I tend to lean towards slightly oversized and masculine shapes ie. shorts and trousers. I like to round off an outfit with a leather jacket or coat - I have four or five in rotation and conveniently it’s rarely too hot in London to wear them.

Where did you wear it/ where are you planning to wear it?
I wore it to a birthday lunch at Rochelle Canteen and then out for a drink in the evening. Comfort is important as I like to walk at speed, so I wear micro heels or flat shoes. Side note: Nina Christen who designed these Bottega shoes has launched her own line and it’s great. I personally have been coveting the thong sandal. (Ed note: She’s also the new Design Director for shoes at Jonathan Anderson’s Dior).

What’s the best style lesson you’ve learned over the years?
I like to have a tightly-edited wardrobe. I only keep pieces I wear and sell everything else periodically. One of the perks of working in buying for 15+ years is that you see collections when they are launched. You then have six months before they are delivered to hone down your wishlist.

One person you think has great style?
Olympia Scarry.

Best life hack?
Buy less, wear what you buy more. I love the concept of a personal uniform and seeing friends whose taste I admire rewearing their favourite pieces again and again.

Your favourite person to follow?
For a refreshing emerging brand Emily Dawn Long. Spazio Leone for antique Italian furniture.
