3 Minute Thread: Katrin Fieseler
"Don’t spend too much time looking into the mirror. Have the ice cream / croissant / cake if you feel like it."
Have you ever lusted after something from the Danish brand HAY? It’s probably Katrin Fieseler’s fault. As the Copenhagen brand’s International PR Manager, Katrin is responsible for spreading the gospel of Danish design far and wide. And who wouldn’t be convinced by someone with such great taste in Disney tees?
Who are you?
Hi, I’m Katrin! Originally from Germany, I live and work in Copenhagen, Denmark, heading Danish design brand HAY’s PR efforts.
What are you wearing?
I’m wearing one of my favourite jackets, an oversized vintage leather blazer by the fabulous Katharina Vintage that goes with pretty much everything. Today’s combo is a secondhand Disney shirt and denim shorts by Assembly label, both purchased on a recent trip to Australia. Shoes are from Spanish brand About Adrianne, necklace by Malaikaraiss.
Why did you choose this outfit?
I often find myself picking a personal evergreen (in this case, the jacket) and mixing it with something fun and colourful (shirt, necklace, shoes). It’s comfy, too, and bike-friendly, which really is all that matters when you live in this city, ha!
Where are you planning to wear it?
Hopefully next week in Germany in proper spring weather – it’s been a tad too cold here to actually leaving the house bare legged- sitting at a café eating spaghetti ice cream. Google it, the concept is weird but also brilliant and it tastes bloody good.
What’s the best style lesson you’ve learned over the years?
It might sound quite banal, but I guess the fact that it’s really just about growing confident in knowing what makes you feel good. You’re an all-black person? Go for it. You like granny chic? Cool, cultivate that. Currently, I like to add fun jewellery here and there and wear the colourful HAY PJs as out-of-the-house basics all the time (to the great and incredulous amusement of my grandmother). Allow yourself to play!
One person you think has great style?
Truly, my colleagues and friends! All in their own way. I always find it inspiring when people just do their thing style wise — Tilda Swinton and Fran Lebowitz are two great and wildly different examples for that.
Best life hack?
Don’t spend too much time looking into the mirror. Have the ice cream / croissant / cake if you feel like it. Learn to say no (still working on that one). And, absolute game changer: Don’t bring your phone into the bedroom.
Your favourite person to follow?
I love
’s little snippets of poetry, ’s clever thoughts on pretty much anything she comments on, and Katie Merchant’s entire aesthetic and cultural universe (her newsletter is great, too). One recommendation to read/ watch/ listen/ see or do?
Lately I’ve been listening to German language music a lot, (nostalgia, is that you?), for example by Zartmann. While I’m terrible when it comes to podcasts, I think the newly launched ‘The Nature Of’ by Atmos sounds wonderful. A very good read was this article about how absurd our perception of beauty has become and what role technology plays in it. And of course, always books books books -- one of many recent favourites is Coco Mellors’ ‘Cleopatra and Frankenstein’. I’m also a wholehearted and shameless fan of the Fourth Wing series – perfect escapism and great world-building, if you generally like the fantasy genre.
