3 Minute Thread: Laura Allard-Fleischl
"Make sure you have at least one outfit you like for the times when you're having a meltdown because everything you try on looks horrendous"
Laura Allard-Fleischl dresses like the protagonist of a retro teen movie, a kind of cross between Penny Lane and all the girls in ‘10 Things I Hate About You’ mixed together. Her style is quirky, cool, and a little bit bohemian. This extends to her home, which she DIYed all by herself! Here’s Laura with some summer outfit inspo:
Who are you?
Laura Allard-Fleischl, and I’m a film photographer from New Zealand, based in London, currently also studying Interior Design, and very unaccustomed, slightly delighted to be the focus of the photo for a change :)
What are you wearing?
I’m wearing a top I got given by a friend over a decade ago, before I moved to London, a skirt from House of Vintage on Broadway Market, the lady at the cashier said it was Gaultier, but there are no tags and google image reverse search is giving me nothing so I’m not totally convinced… I got the bag on eBay because my mum had the same one when I was little and I was always really jealous of it. But she won’t give it to me, so now she has to suffer matching (except the zipper broke so I’ve replaced it with a little sushi).
The boots are by Corral and are handmade from python in Mexico, but I got mine at the Venetian in Vegas after my friends’ wedding last year. My necklace is two antique fob chains stuck together with a bunch of charms from holidays. My charm bracelet I’ve had since I was six months old - my Mum bought me all the charms when I was little. And sunglasses because we have a very uncharacteristic spell of sunshine in London!
Why did you choose this outfit?
It’s honestly just a bunch of things that make me happy, I’ve worn this skirt more days than not since I bought it and have had to restitch parts on numerous occasions. I try really hard to look after things but if I love an item I’ll just wear it and mend it over and over until it’s basically a rag.
Where did you wear it/ where are you planning to wear it?
In true fashion of anyone in London the second there’s a drop of sunshine, I’m wearing it to the park for a picnic. I’ve got a bottle of orange wine and a tote full of picky bits to complete the look.
What’s the best style lesson you’ve learned over the years?
It’s so cliché, but wear what makes you happy, and don’t feel like you have to land on a certain look or aesthetic and stick to it. Also, make sure you have at least one tried and true outfit that you know you like for the times when you have to be somewhere and are having a meltdown because everything you try on looks horrendous… or maybe that’s just me?
One person you think has great style?
My friend Eloise. I love going out to things with her because she always turns out a look, and I know I can be extra because I’m guaranteed to not be alone.
Best life hack?
To do lists! For everything. I’m a Virgo so they’re a built-in function for me. Also, clothing related, I’m a chronic over-packer for things like holidays and festivals, so I’ve started planning and photographing outfits before any trip so that I only pack what I need and also have an album of everything to wear so I don’t even have to think about it when I’m away.
Your favourite person to follow?
I only really look at vintage and antique furniture accounts regularly, there’s some great places near me in Leyton @monument_london @pushpull.store and @sauce.ldn are all fantastic and then @the_spotlight_market and @sunburyantiques to keep track of when the markets are on.
One recommendation to read/ watch/ listen/ see or do?
My biggest recommendation now that the weather is getting warmer, is to get a lilo (they sell them for £6 from B&Q), find your nearest body of water, and go have a float. There’s truly nothing in life that brings me more joy than a float.
