3 Minute Thread: Panayiota Soutis
"To me, the world of taste is really about pleasure seeking. The search for those beautiful moments that most nourish our soul."
I met Pani on the streets of Hackney, when she approached me to say she loved my newsletter. I was deeply flattered, even moreso when I read hers - a glorious tour of the world of taste, with a witty title ‘The Goal is to Eat’. So here she is, serving!
Who are you?
Panayiota Soutis, known to most as Pani. I’m a people person and I love few things more than chatting. I’m a consultant, curator and commentator, operating in what I like to call the world of taste. To me, the world of taste is really about pleasure seeking, the search for those beautiful moments that most nourish our soul.
What are you wearing?
From top to bottom: Black Ray Bans, impulsively purchased at Perth airport. Pearls from Completed Works. Gold mini hoops were the earrings my ears were pierced with when I was seven. Mac Angel lipstick, a colour I’ve been wearing for the past three years. Silver chain from vintage jewellery dealer Sacrosanct via inNEOSS, the best boutique in Hackney.
Satin printed top from Beyond Retro in Stoke Newington - I love their silky lingerie section, where I like to buy camis and slips. White trousers from Zara, that have had a lot of wear and I now have to roll the waistband over as the waist tie has gone. Dior denim saddle bag, from a vintage shop in Montmartre in 2017, bought for €100 which makes me wonder whether it’s a fake.
Silver tennis bracelet from a souvenir shop in Nicosia a couple of weeks ago. Must de Cartier Tank sourced by Françoise watches in Paris, for my 30th birthday. Gold figaro bracelet with my name engraved in Greek, a gift from my grandparents when I was christened. Scrunchie from Pak’s in Dalston. Clear lucite ring from Corey Moranis, a birthday gift from two of my best friends - a symbol of their constant support.
Gold and sapphire ring by Seb Brown, a gift from my ex boyfriend (it’s too beautiful not to wear).
Two gold figaro anklets, one with a heart charm, the other with an evil eye charm to keep matiasma at bay. Brown suede Sebago slingbacks, bought on heavy discount in early spring. Turns out they’re the perfect summer city and holiday shoe.
Why did you choose this outfit?
It was a 25°C Friday night and a casual evening ahead, staying close to home. I wanted to feel sexy, and this outfit is slinky, chic and totally relaxed. It features a lot of tiny, shiny details, as well as blues, browns and golds, which feed my soul.
Where did you wear it?
For a dinner spread at 01 Adana with my boyfriend, followed by a couple of glasses at Stella’s - a butcher cum bar - where a friend of ours was DJing.
What’s the best style lesson you’ve learned over the years?
Don’t try to emulate someone else’s entire look. Pay attention to the smaller details, from the cut of their clothes to the attitude with which they wear them, and pick up cues for your own wardrobe. Also, learn which colours you love most, and that suit you best.
One person you think has great style?
Maryam Nassir Zadeh. I like her genre blending - mixing colours and patterns, the high with the low, objects and materials - and I admire her unfiltered, feminine-first point of view online. Maryam and I share a penchant for the sea, sunsets and spiritual signs, and I adore her trademark pink lip.
Best life hack?
Body oil as perfume. I alternate between Madagascan Amber and Mexican Tuberose from Officine Universelle Buly, and I’m recently addicted to the Coconut and Rose oil from Floricienta Iuvenalis.
Ustun for chicken or lentil soup, pickles and fresh bread rather than cooking dinner for one.
Your favourite person to follow?
The Slow Factory by Céline Semaan grows my mind, Greek Visions by Takis Zontiros blows my mind and Subway Takes by Kareem Rahma frees my mind. Olivia Sudjic and Sarah Souli are two very smart women that help me see the truth, on the topic of freeing Palestine, almost every single day.

Agree that the tuberose oil from Buly makes for an excellent perfume!!
