Thank you for the encouragement! Nothing sets you up for failure more than the 'here's one I thought was rubbish, but then didn't, but it could still be, in which case this intro only puts more egg (mayo) on my face'. And yes, that shoot is insane! I can't take any credit for that.
I genuinely love the way you wrote this! The way you seamlessly incorporated food analogies with your points was genuinely a chef's kiss. Perfection! I can't wait to read more from you!
Ohhh I have so many thoughts, loved this! I could really have used Clippy the cheerleader this week so yeah...joining the petition. Totally see the Pret a connection here - when I was living in London, my colleagues and I called Pret our 'Luxury Lunch' since we were eternally stuck in our overdrafts and it felt like a mini indulgence (much like fashion). Nowadays I think we're too burnt out from the polycrisis era and just need some safe and reliable comfort food/fashion.
I know, I did think ponder on the price comparison point, bc Pret is not cheap! They also really cleverly design the portion sizes so that you have to buy at least two things to feel full. Can you tell I've overthought their strategy?
Great essay, glad it made it out! Also love the interview with Cate Blanchett, I’m obseeeeessed with how the photo shoot for it came out!!

Thank you Divina!
